Kate Samworth Wins First-ever Kirkus Prize for Young People’s Literature

Recently, we shared the good news that Aviary Wonders Inc. by Kate Samworth was nominated for the first-ever Kirkus Prize, a new literary award that honors the best in fiction, nonfiction, and young people’s literature.

Today, we can share even bigger and better news—Kate won! Kate Samworth was awarded the Kirkus Prize for young people’s literature at an award ceremony last night during the Texas Book Festival in Austin, Texas. Congratulations, Kate!

Praised by the judges for its creativity, Aviary Wonders Inc. is a comic environmental fable that offers a businessman’s dollars-and-sense solution to the drastic effects of deforestation. It was one of two picture books (six books total) to be nominated in the young readers’ category.
